Makrichori is located just opposite of the peak of Kissavos, at the foot of Mount Karakopetra. The village was close to the Greek-Turkish border before the Balkan wars (1912-1913), during which it was a supply passage for the Greek army.
In recent years, with the great road works of the area, the archaeologists revealed a double defensive trench carved in the prehistoric curve of the Neolithic period, beside the Makrichori junction.
In the beautiful square of the village stands dominant the imposing Temple of St. Apostolos Thomas, built in the beginning of the last century.
